Science

At Abbey Hill, our science curriculum nurtures curiosity and a deep understanding of the world around us. We help pupils see how science is everywhere — in what we do, see and experience — and how it links to real life. We want our Abbeyhillians to feel excited about discovering how things work, building both knowledge and enquiry skills as they learn to think like scientists: asking questions, testing ideas and drawing conclusions through hands-on investigations and outdoor exploration. Events like British Science Week help inspire this curiosity, encouraging ambition, pride and resilience as pupils aim high, persevere and take ownership of their discoveries.

Our curriculum is thoughtfully designed to build knowledge and skills from Early Years to Year 6, aligned with the National Curriculum. It draws on guidance from the Association for Science Education (ASE) and White Rose Education to support high-quality, practical and engaging teaching. We tailor our own resources, using these materials where helpful, to create an enquiry-rich curriculum that encourages questioning, reasoning and scientific thinking.
