Geography

By studying Geography at Abbey Hill, pupils learn to understand and appreciate diverse cultures, environments and ways of life, encouraging empathy and respect for others. Learning about global issues, such as poverty and natural disasters, promotes compassion and a desire to support those in need. Pupils also develop their understanding of resilience by explore real-world challenges, such as climate change, and understand how communities adapt and recover.

As with History, Geography is taught through a lens-based approach, using themes such as Power and Peace, Imagination and Innovation, What a Wonderful World, and Equity and Diversity to provide clear focus and direction. Key enquiry questions encourage pupils to think critically, problem solve, explore evidence, and draw their own conclusions. Pupils engage in immersive, well-resourced experiences which bring learning to life. These experiences are embedded in topic-based units taught alongside History, allowing pupils to make meaningful connections between their immediate environment and the rest of the world.
